Inspiration for you: always dream big!

For all of you who have given up or lost hope, I hope you find these helpful:

Ryan Shupe & The Rubberband - Dream Big!

When you cry, be sure to dry your eyes,
'Cause better days are sure to come.
And when you smile, be sure to smile wide,
And don't let them know that they have won.
And when you walk, walk with pride,
And don't show the hurt inside,
Because the pain will soon be gone.

(Chorus)
And when you dream, dream big,
As big as the ocean, blue.
'Cause when you dream it might come true.
But when you dream, dream big.

And when you laugh, be sure to laugh out loud,
'Cause it will carry all your cares away.
And when you see, see the beauty all around and in yourself,
And it will help you feel okay.
And when you pray, pray for strength to help you carry on,
But when the troubles come your way.

(Chorus)
And when you dream, dream big,
As big as the ocean, blue.
'Cause when you dream it might come true.
But when you dream, dream big.

(Dream big.)
(Dream big.)

When you cry be sure to dry your eyes,
cause better days are sure to come.
And when you smile be sure to smile wide, and
don't let them know that they have one.
And when you laugh be sure to laugh out loud,
'Cause it will carry all your cares away.
And when you see, see the beauty all
around and in yourself, and it will help you feel okay.
And when you pray, pray for strength to
help you carry on when the troubles come your way.

Chorus

Emily Shackelton - Dream Big!

When I was a little girl
I swore that I would change the world
When I grew up
Nothing else would be enough

Back then it all seemed black and white
But these days I just can't seem to find
The child in me, who always believed

I see it everyday
We settle for safe
And lose ourselves along the way

But if you don't dream big what's the use in dreaming
If you don't have faith there's nothing worth believing
It takes one hope to make the stars worth reaching for
So reach out for something more

Took a well perfected plan
For me to finally understand
That it's not me
Faith is something I can't see

I loose the reins and let 'em go
I broke the chains I fear
That had their hold on me too long
When all I felt was wrong

I've wiped my tears away
Now it's time for a change
No I can't waste another day

'Cause if you don't dream big what's the use in dreaming
If you don't have faith there's nothing worth believing
It takes one hope to make the stars worth reaching for

Yeah

So close your eyes and tell me what you see
Between what's real and make believe
Here's the path we've all been searching for
So reach out for something more

Than you ever could imagine then move
Don't wait for it to happen
Life's too short for not taking chances
The stars aren't as far as they seem

But if you don't dream big what's the use in dreaming
If you don't have faith there's nothing worth believing
It takes one hope to make the stars worth reaching for

So close your eyes and tell me what you see
Between what's real and make believe
Here's the path we've all been searching for
So reach out for something more
For something more
So reach out for something more

Goodbye UiTM

Assalamualaikum and a superb day I bid to all of you!

My last day at UiTM is on the 27th of November. It has been more than five years here at UiTM as both a student and an educator.

Among the pleasant memories shared throughout the period that I have been in UiTM:

As a student:

During my pre-degree studies for TESL (equivalent to STPM/A-levels/Matriculation)

I scored a perfect 4.00 GPA for the first semester.

I did a short radio drama and drama. I learned the basics of public speaking.

I met interesting people throughout the whole course of study.

During my Bachelor's Degree in TESL (equivalent to a US bachelor's degree).

7 times dean's list awards (throughout the entire course of study).

Best student award for the bachelor's degree in TESL.

I graduated with First Class Honors (allows direct access to PhD without having to do a Master's degree if I would like to do it that way).

I took part in two slots (one hour each) for the 50-hour non-stop English debate organised by the Faculty of Education. The record is published in the Malaysian Book of Records.

I took part in as a ticketing and promotion personnel for the Whoa! Willow musical play held at Pangung Bandaraya in K.L.

The play got quite a good coverage on television and in newspapers.

I became a research assistant for the Ministry of Education for the analysis of Geography and History results for PMR.

I learned a lot about behavior, different points of view and ways of living from the many people that I had encountered.

It had taught me not to focus on the differences between people but the commonalities that we share.

It had also learned a lot about love, friendships, working in groups, and the value of hard work and perseverance.

It had taught me to be appreciative and thankful for the people that have always been by my side through the ups and downs of student life.

As an educator:

My students at INTEC had taught me many things directly and indirectly about life and their generation's (although I'm not that old myself) point of view on things. I will always remember the good times we had and also I'll miss all of you! :-(

In general, lecturers at university teach for 18 - 24 hours per week (which can be tiring too. At schools, teachers teach for a maximum of 24 periods but each period lasts only for about 40 minutes. Let's do some math: 24 x 40 minutes = 16 hours per week.

A commonality that teachers at school and university share is that hey also have to attend meetings, organise/manage events, prepare for lessons, mark papers and invigilate examinations.

For those interested in becoming an educator, please prepare yourself mentally and physically to handle the stress and pressures of work and the patience required to convey information to your students.

"Why can't we get all the people together in the world that we really like and then just stay together?
I guess that wouldn't work.
Someone would leave.
Someone always leaves.
Then we would have to say good-bye.
I hate good-byes.
I know what I need.
I need more hellos.”

Snoopy quotes
(Fictional character from the comic strip Peanuts, by Charles M. Schulz)

Where will I be working next?

I'll be working at Masterskill University College of Health Sciences in Cheras, Selangor from December 2008.

The courses offered at this university are mainly medical courses: pharmacy, nursing, etc.

I'll most probably experience new things here since it's a private university: management, classes, students, facilities and job advancements.

Hopefully, it will be a very good place as well. ^_^

Final Exam (ALEL10) Tips

Section A

Reading

I - Circle the key points in the question and search for the key words in the reading text.

- Main ideas are usually found in the first few lines of the paragraph.

It can sometimes be found in the middle or at the end of the paragraph.

- The answer can be found directly in the reading text. Rephrase your answer as necessary.

- ALWAYS answer in full sentences.

Grammar

II
- Be careful with singular/plural verbs and nouns.

- Be careful with present tense/ past tense/ present perfect and past perfect.

- Revise on contrast markers (Although, In contrast, On the other hand, etc.)

Critical Thinking

III - Study and revise on inductive and deductive arguments.

- Don't just read the question once, read it at least twice and think before you answer.

Section B

There are only two types of essays that are going to be tested:

a) Compare and contrast

b) Cause and effect

You will only need to answer ONE type, be it compare and contrast or cause and effect.

You should master both types of essays and remember the organisation pattern that I have taught you for putting points in your essay.

Refer to the sample answer scripts for the previous tests and work on improving your own composition.

Demo-process Speech General Comments (9M3 & UK6B)

Demo-Process Speech General Comments for All

1. Control your nervousness when speaking in public or in front of a crowd. You should constantly practice your speech before presenting it in class.

2. Make sure that you are at the center of the class when you present.

3. Maintain eye contact with not only the instructor, but also the audience.

4. You should use your speech cards just as a reminder on what you should talk about next. Do not rely on it 100% when delivering a speech. It shows you are unprepared.

5. It is recommended that you give the audience the materials that you use when demonstrating how to make an object (only for small and simple to do objects).

6. It is okay to throw in a few jokes here and there in your speech, but the main focus is to present the process of doing an action or making an object. You lose marks if you focus too much on jokes in the speech.

7. When demonstrating a small object, make sure that you have a bigger version to display to the entire audience. Generally, people at the back cannot see the small things that you display to them.

8. You should always practice your speech in full and time it. The instructor ignores points presented beyond the time limit. This causes you to lose marks.

9. The outline that you do for your speech is a general outline. You need not follow or say what you have written in it word by word. You should make adjustments to it to suit the time limit given.

10. Always consult the instructor whenever you have doubt on how to present your speech.

* For class UK6B, you can view the comments written by your friends for your particular demo-process speech in the folder at the notice board outside of my room at ST17 (It will only be displayed there until this 26th of September)

An Uplifting Song - The Time of My Life

The Time of My Life - David Cook

I’ve been waiting for my dreams
To turn into something
I could believe in
And looking for that
Magic rainbow
On the horizon
I couldn’t see it
Until I let go
Gave into love and watched all the bitterness burn
Now I’m coming alive
Body and soul
And feeling my world start to turn

And I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time
To be more than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life

Holding onto things that vanished
Into the air
Left me in pieces
But now I’m rising from the ashes
Finding my wings
And all that I needed
Was there all along
Within my reach
As close as the beat of my heart

And I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time to be
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life

And I’m out on the edge of forever
Ready to run
I’m keeping my feet on the ground
Arms open wide
Face to the sun

I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time to be
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
This is the time
This is the time of my life.
This is the time of my life.

Take note. Don't always sleep late!! - Myself Included

Take note. Don't always sleep late!!

Good rest and sound sleep is very important and if you don't sleep well,

The toxic in your body will accumulate and affect your health and your mood.

The main causes of liver damage are:

1. Sleeping too late and waking up too late are the main cause.

2. Not urinating in the morning.

3. Too much eating.

4. Skipping breakfast.

5. Consuming too much medication.

6. Consuming too much preservatives, additives, food coloring, and artificial sweetener.

7. Consuming unhealthy cooking oil. As much as possible reduce cooking oil use when frying, which includes even the best cooking oils like olive oil. Do not consume fried foods when you are tired, except if the body is very fit.

8. Consuming overly done foods also add to the burden of liver. Veggies should be eaten raw or cooked 3-5 parts. Fried veggies should be finished in one sitting, do not store.

We just have to adopt a good daily lifestyle and eating habits. Maintaining good eating habits and time condition are very important for our body to absorb and get rid of unnecessary chemicals according to 'schedule.'

Because: Evening at 9 - 11pm : is the time for eliminating unnecessary/ toxic chemicals (de-toxification) from the antibody system (lymph nodes). This time duration should be spent by relaxing or listening to music. If during this time a housewife is still in an unrelaxed state such as washing the dishes or monitoring children doing their homework, this will have a negative impact on her health.

Evening at 11pm - 1a.m. : The de-toxification process in the liver, and ideally should be done in a deep sleep state. Early morning 1 - 3a.m. : de-toxification process in the gall, also ideally done in a deep sleep state.

Early morning 3 - 5a.m. : de-toxification in the lungs. Therefore there will sometimes be a severe cough for cough sufferers during this time. Since the de-toxification process had reached the respiratory tract, there is no need to take cough medicine so as not to interfere with toxin removal process.

Morning 5 - 7a.m.: de-toxification in the colon, you should empty your bowel.

Morning 7 - 9a.m.: Absorption of nutrients in the small intestine, you should be having breakfast at this time.

Breakfast should be earlier, before 6:30a.m., for those who are sick.

Breakfast before 7:30a.m. is very beneficial to those wanting to stay fit.

Those who always skip breakfast, they should change their habits, and it is still better to eat breakfast late until 9 -10a.m. rather than no meal at all.

Sleeping so late and waking up too late will disrupt the process of removing unnecessary chemicals. Aside from that, midnight to 4a.m. is the time when the bone marrow produces blood.

Therefore, have a good sleep and don't sleep late.

Important Information For All

AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY (TRY THE KEY WORD) AND ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHN HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS an alternative way.

Cancer Update from John Hopkins University

1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.

2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime

3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.

4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to gen etc, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.

5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.

6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.

7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.

8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.

9 When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.

10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.

11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.

CANCER CELLS FEED ON:

a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. Diet cola contains this ingredient which has been linked to horrible side-effects such as severe migraines and rebound cravings for sugar. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in color.
Better alternative is Bragg's amino's or sea salt.

b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus.By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk cancer cells are being starved.

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts)and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).

e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it

12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become purified and leads to more toxic buildup.

13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apostasies, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unwilling to forgive and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life. God put us here to have fun and enjoy His creations, not to struggle.

16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get m ore oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

PLEASE FORWARD IT TO PEOPLE YOU CARE ABOUT

CANCER UPDATE FROM JOHN HOPKINS HOSPITAL , U S - PLEASE READ

1. No plastic containers in micro.

2. No water bottles in freezer.

3. No plastic wrap in microwave.

Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well.

Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer.

Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cell s of our bodies.

Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.
Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers.

This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant noodles and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else.

Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper.
The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead

This is an article that should be sent to anyone important in your life.

I'm telling you this because you are among the important people in my life. ^_^

How to improve your IELTS performance

Some Dos and Don'ts for your IELTS test

LISTENING

1. Don’t just glance at instructions, but read them carefully. They can vary considerably.
2. It often happens that the speaker will give you an answer, and then corrects what s/he said - watch out for this ploy.
3. Try and anticipate what the speaker will say. This requires concentration - easy in your own language, but more difficult in English.
4. Remember, if you want a high score you should aim to get all questions in parts one and two correct. Don’t make any careless mistakes in the easier sections.
5. Small errors can lead to a low score such as spelling mistakes, omitting plural 's' or incomplete time indications.
6. Don’t panic if you think the topic is too difficult or the speaker is too fast. Take a deep breath, relax and tune in.
7. Read, write and listen at the same time. Tricky, but worth practicing!
8. Don’t leave blanks, you might as well guess as you won’t be penalized for wrong answers.

READING

1. Leave a question for later if you can’t answer. Spending a long time on one answer is not ideal. Go back later if you have time and guess if you have too.
2. Don’t panic if you don’t know anything about the subject the passage deals with. All the answers can be found in the passage and you don’t need any specialist knowledge.
3. Remember that - unlike the Listening - you have no extra time to transfer your answers at the end of the Reading.
4. As a preparation for the exam, read as widely as possible e.g. newspapers, magazines, or journals. Don’t limit yourself to one type of text and read articles with an academic style if possible.
5. Look at ways paragraphs are organized. Main ideas are usually in line 1 – 10 of the paragraph. Find the main ideas and supporting details for each paragraph. Sometimes main ideas are scattered; it can be in the first and last paragraph or even the final paragraph for a particularly long paragraph.
6. Try and predict the content of a paragraph from the opening sentence.
7. Don’t concentrate on words you don’t know. It only wastes valuable time.
8. Careless mistakes cost points. Copy the answer correctly if it is mentioned in the passage.
9. Check your spelling, and make sure to put in singular or plural as asked for.
10. Only give one answer unless explicitly said otherwise.

WRITING

1. Highlight/circle key words.
2. Clearly divide paragraphs.
3. Don’t repeat ideas using different words.
4. Stick to the topic.
5. Careful with timing! Don’t rush Task 2, it’s longer and carries more weight.
6. Avoid informal language.
7. Learn to recognize how long 150/250 words is in your handwriting. You don’t really have time to count.
8. Get used to spending several minutes re-reading and correcting your essays.

SPEAKING

1. We want to test your ability to communicate effectively, and not just your grammatical accuracy.
2. Develop your answers as much as possible.
3. Speak more than the examiner.
4. Ask for clarification if necessary.
5. Remember, this is not a test of your knowledge, but of your language abilities. There is not one correct answer and all the others are wrong. Try to express your opinion.
6. The areas covered are fairly predictable and not infinite, so practice at home by yourself.

My Class Timetable

Assalamualaikum and a very good day everyone!

We're currently in week 10 of the semester (for ALEL10 students) and week 7 (for PAL301 students).

This means that there is only a 6 weeks left to the final examination (for ALEL10 students) and only 3 weeks left (for PAL301 students who are taking IELTS).

I have decided to post my class timetable online so that you can take a look at it and find the appropriate date and time to consult me regarding the subject that I teach you.

Please make sure that you inform me at least 3 days in advance before coming to see me as I might have events that I need to attend and/or manage throughout a particular week.

I have fixed the file and the link to view my class timetable for this semester.

Ramadhan Al-Mubarak Greetings

Doa malaikat Jibril menjelang Ramadhan " "Ya Allah tolong abaikan puasa ummat Muhammad, apabila sebelum memasuki bulan Ramadhan dia tidak melakukan hal-hal yang berikut: * Tidak memohon maaf terlebih dahulu kepada kedua orang tuanya (jika masih ada); * Tidak berma'afan terlebih dahulu antara suami isteri; * Tidak bermaafan terlebih dahulu dengan orang-orang sekitarnya. Maka Rasulullah pun mengatakan Amiin sebanyak 3 kali.
